Sligo Credit Union

Client: Sligo Credit Union

Renovation of The Clarence Hotel on Wine Street, Sligo as the new home for Sligo Credit Union in Sligo. Building is included on the Register of Protected Structures and is a four-bay three-storey stone hotel, built circa 1845.

The building was originally constructed as a residence. It is thought to have been constructed around the early 1800’s. The new use of the building as a financial institution is a compatible use which will ensure that the building is maintained and conserved for future generations. The majority of interventions are located within the modern extensions to the rear. The remaining elements of the protected structure, which is a significant survival from the early nineteenth century, are all retained and conserved. There were some alterations to the building to facilitate the continued use of the building as a financial institution, to comply with up to date access and fire protection standards and to bring it to modern standards. All interventions were minimal in line with good conservation practice. The setting of the protected structure is unaltered by the development. The overall refurbishment extended to c. 1,520 sqm
