New Extensions to and Restoration and Refurbishment of Naas Town Hall (a Protected Structure) Co. Kildare. The original building contained some leaks at roof level, and was not in compliance with fire and disability access regulations. Most of the building had become vacant. The proposed works included, demolition of single storey returns and council depot out buildings which were not original to the original Gaol building and construction of a Single storey double height library room and a two storey return extension to accommodate new accessible changing places toilet & sanitary facilities, meeting rooms, storage and plant room. Thermal upgrade works included installation of new insulated floors, drylining to 20th century walls, insulation upgrade to roofs and re-roofing main roof as well as installation of new windows and HRV system within the building. Installation of My Open Library Systems formed an integral part of the building.
The installation of modern services into an old building, integration of old and new work were part of the scope of proposed works. The original Gaol entrance was restored to its original stonework, and within the 1904 front extension, the floor between ground and first floor was opened up to create a double height entrance hall to highlight the importance of the original facade. Existing rooms are retained in size providing all the necessary rooms for study, meetings and multifunctional purposes as well as providing a canteen for staff a spacious Multifunctional room in the original council chamber and Gallery room facilities which will enable the building to continue to be used by the town.
